What is Executive Function?
Executive function refers to the set of fundamental cognitive skills (impulse control, working memory, task initiation, emotional regulation, organization, planning, etc.) responsible for managing our thoughts, emotions, goal-oriented behaviors.
We rely on these skills in all aspects of life, and for some—particularly those diagnosed with ADHD or autism spectrum disorder (ASD)—these critical skills don’t develop to age-appropriate levels, creating compounding barriers to success and healthy, independent living.
